I was highly elated yesterday, when TV3 carried a story in its news 360 to alert the general public on the possible dangerous effects that the use of old LPG cylinders can bring.
The close to 20 minutes story, touched on the proper way of maintaining gas cylinders and the proper way of positioning the cylinders for use.
The educative story stressed that the safest way to prevent possible gas explosion is to distance the cylinder from the cooker.
The recommended place being outside the kitchen also comes with its conditions: it (cylinder) should be in a well designed cage and should be prevented from sunshine and rainfall.
However, various experts who were interviewed cautioned the public to shun the use of the second hand or slightly used cylinders and opt for the brand new ones and even with that it should be discarded after five years.
Therefore, following the number of tragedies that have befallen this nation as a result of gas explosion, I strongly hope and believe that the above sensitization when taken seriously would go a long way to curtail this predicament.
