DEVELOP THE SPIRIT OF RECONCILIATION - REV ATSIWAH

The area head pastor of the Kwadaso central branch of the Christ Apostolic Church Int, Rev. E.K. Atsiwah has appealed to all Christians to develop the spirit of reconciliation as Christ taught mankind.
"As Christians, our core responsibility is to represent Christ on earth and to fully conduct ourselves as ambassadors of Christ" he said.

He made this humble appeal when the church held a special circuit meeting at the Kwadaso central branch of the church to mark the last Sunday service of 2012.
He asserted that as Christ died to save mankind, so does the onus lie on Christians to preach messages about the salvation of Christ and to be vessels of reconciliation.
He reminded Christians that the yuletide enjoins everybody to live in peace with everyone, speak peace, preach peace and to practice peace.
The congregation said special prayers for their families and the nation.

WHERE IS THE PATRIOTISM?

It comes with much surprise and bombshell, how our parliamentarians unanimously and hastily approved to be paid such gigantic sums of money. The most horrible part of the increase in emoluments is that of the executive arm of government.
The salaries of MPs jumped from GH¢3,500 to GH¢7,200 per month for each lawmaker .That of the president has been increased to GH¢12,000, Ministers of State and their deputies are also to earn between GH¢8,000 and GH¢9000 respectively, just like presidential staffers and aides.
These figures were agreed upon after a closed sitting of Parliament on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, after the executive had also approved that of the MPs in a game of “you scratch my back, I scratch your back……..One good turn deserves another”.
Shockingly, with the latest upward adjustments, members of these two arms of government would all benefit from arrears which would take retrospective effect from 2009.
My biggest worry is that, is Ghana that rich to pay such amount of monies? Is Ghana not the same country that some people can’t afford three-square meal a day? Is it not this same country that is always securing loans from other countries?
GOD SHOULD SAVE US.

Old LPG Cylinders Are Unsafe To Use

I was highly elated yesterday, when TV3 carried a story in its news 360 to alert the general public on the possible dangerous effects that the use of old LPG cylinders can bring.

The close to 20 minutes story, touched on the proper way of maintaining gas cylinders and the proper way of positioning the cylinders for use.

The educative story stressed that the safest way to prevent possible gas explosion is to distance the cylinder from the cooker.

The recommended place being outside the kitchen also comes with its conditions: it (cylinder) should be in a well designed cage and should be prevented from sunshine and rainfall.

However, various experts who were interviewed cautioned the public to shun the use of the second hand or slightly used cylinders and opt for the brand new ones and even with that it should be discarded after five years.

Therefore, following the number of tragedies that have befallen this nation as a result of gas explosion, I strongly hope and believe that the above sensitization when taken seriously would go a long way to curtail this predicament.

STOP CHILDREN FROM STREET HAWKING

I was really consumed by emotions yesterday when I saw little kids aged between 9 and 12years taking the advantage of the regular evening vehicular traffic that stretched from the Bekwai round-about to Santasi round-about in Kumasi to sell various commodities.

The commodities which were mostly dominated by bread also included chips, dough nuts, pillows, mobile phone units, dusters among few others.
Aside the fact that the time was inappropriate for them to be selling on the road side and that they should be at their various homes concentrating on their books, the danger that poses their lives as they rush to the cars is my major concern.

They also face the threat of being knocked down by these cars because some drivers and motor users try to avoid the long cue and veered off the road to use the pedestrian walk way where these kids mostly stand.

Among other things, I honestly know that a lot have been said and published about this issue but it hurriedly need to be revisited since the trotro car I boarded yesterday nearly sent two beautiful kids to their graves.

Against this backdrop, I am appealing to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) to quickly put serious measures in place to check this menace in the Kumasi Metropolis.

Students in a queue for their kenkey.
It was all food affairs on Saturday, 25th February, 2012 when the Communication Studies Department of Christian Service University College, Kumasi feeds the entire student body with kenkey and several varieties of fishes on the school campus.
The event dubbed “kenkey party” was part of the activities of the department’s week long celebration. The kenkey party which was initially intended to cater for only communication students later saw students from other departments enjoying it.
Faculty members and the students could not hide their joy since the successful event enriched lecturers and students relationship. Some lecturers of the Communication Studies Department even shared their meals with the students.
